Poulakia By Elyse Metaxas

$300.00

Are they smiling at you? Will they make you weep? Will they know when to stop? Will they need a lesson in “Sorry” or “gentle” or are they here to teach you a thing or two?

Elyse Metaxas is a Greek artist living on Wadawarrung land and working with mixed media, including painting, textiles, and performance, to create landscapes of raw pleasure that explore what happens when you’re exhausted, humiliated, and looking for answers.

Elyse’s practice centres on rituals of creation that enhance connection to the thread of life. Building capacity through disability and exploring the other side of caregiving, subverting the expectations of femininity.

Inserting herself into each circumstance, creating portals that writhe with painted gestures of revenge and lust, and starve for human affection. Gawk and gossip and  expand your eyes, as she swallows you whole, along with the rest of the universe.

Acrylic, oil stick, varnish on salvaged canvas

40 × 50 cm
