Beyond the Archetype: A Collaboration on a Posthuman Textile Waste Narrative

Step into a posthuman realm where discarded garments are given a voice.

What would happen if our waste could communicate? What stories would it tell?

Beyond the Archetype invites you into a posthuman realm where the clothes we wear—and casually throw away—are given a voice. By reframing textile waste as an entity with its own lived experience, this collaborative exhibition and show deconstructs the untold stories of our garbage.

Does our waste tell tales of reciprocal care, or does it hold darker secrets of manipulation and exploitation for the benefit of the elite?

By giving voice to the voiceless, this evocative narrative subverts the dominant constructs of fashion. Audiences are invited to confront their own relationship with the materials around them, examine the consequences of a throwaway culture, and radically re-imagine the future of consumption.

Gina (G-Gee’s) is a self taught textile designer with a background in community development, using waste as a medium for expression and political commentary, launching her upcycled brand; FrankenStitch in 2023.

Letitia Kellion-O'Brien is a writer/actor who has produced three plays in fringe festivals and independently. Most recently she toured a solo-show to the 2025 Adelaide Fringe Festival, performing her original contemporary fables.

Lazarus is a queer, sustainable designer of fashion, wearable art, and accessories. Inspired by their own constantly shifting sense of gender and identity, their work invites wearers to escape the ordinary to become someone, or something else.

Kate Sylvester has undertaken a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Painting, Victorian College of Arts, 2014. She completed a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Art History, La Trobe University, 2005 and currently creates conceptual fashion art primarily with recycled t-shirts.
