Metamorphosis is a celebration of movement, growth, and becoming. Derived from the Latin meta ("change") and morphē ("form"), the word describes a profound transformation: one that alters not only appearance, but also character, perception, and way of being.
The works presented in this exhibition trace the artist's journey over the past two years. They begin with drawings made months before migrating to Australia and continue through the experiences, uncertainties, and discoveries that have shaped this new chapter of her life. These paintings became a way of returning to the joyful memories of her subconscious childhood in her home country, a small ritual of comfort and hope.
What you see here is more than a healing process; it is a quiet personal act of hope that everything pass and that change is inevitable. Each horse, landscape, bedtime or magical creatures embodies a longing to preserve wonder and discovery offering a glimpse of beauty in a world increasingly marked by negativity and polarisation.
During this period, the artist underwent a quiet yet profound transformation. Unfolding largely on an unconscious level, this process also reshaped her artistic practice, leading her to abandon expectation in favour of a more intuitive and authentic visual language. Metamorphosis ultimately speaks to the revelation of our essential nature through change. It asks: Who are we when the identities and masks we have constructed can no longer contain who we are becoming?
Bio
Catalina Leichner (Buenos Aires, 1996) is a visual artist, educator and trained conservator specialising in the restoration of paintings, sculpture, and works on paper. With over eight years of professional experience at the National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA) and further training through programs with the Getty Conservation Institute, she has integrated technical mastery with hands-on studio practice.
Her artwork has been exhibited in Buenos Aires and internationally, including solo and group shows in Argentina and Australia. Through fantastic realism, Catalina’s practice explores emotional states, environmental concerns, and imaginative worlds, using painting and mixed media. Her dual career in art-making and restoration informs a unique sensitivity to colour, texture, material permanence, and the narratives embedded in what the act of creating can be a gate for personal growth and healing.
