This series explores the tension between the vast, dynamic universe and the fragile ecosystems of Earth. Planets, galaxies, black holes and nebulae become subjects through which the visually unrenderable—gas, light and movement—is interpreted in hand-stitched thread on reclaimed linen. Colour and stitch translate the extraordinary phenomena of space into tactile, material form.

In contrast, the textile Kintsugi works reflect the fractures occurring within Earth’s ecosystems and communities. Reclaimed textiles are used to wrap and reassemble broken ceramic fragments, deliberately emphasising the breaks rather than concealing them. Drawing on the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi, these works consider damage, repair and transformation, proposing that scars can become sites of renewed value.

The series ultimately connects our desire to explore beyond Earth with the urgent need to care for the planet we inhabit. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated that governments can mobilise rapidly in response to crisis. These works ask whether similar collective action can be directed towards the environmental changes required to sustain our shared future.
