Between Here and There brings together the work of emerging artists Jade Lees Pavey and Debbie Ewington, created during a self-guided road trip residency from Melbourne to Broken Hill.

With no set agenda or predetermined outcome, we travelled simply to see what we might discover. We were curious about the landscape, the changing light and how being immersed in the vastness of the Australian interior might influence our work.

Along the way, we became increasingly aware of the unusual relationship between land and sky. The land stretches endlessly, while the sky often seems to take up even more space. Light, colour, distance and shifting horizons became subjects in themselves.

Working side by side, we responded independently to what we encountered through painting, photography, observation and conversation.

The resulting works are not a literal record of the journey, but personal responses to the places, moments and impressions gathered somewhere between here and there.
