Bridie Nelson is an early career artist from Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa New Zealand, and is currently working in Naarm/Melbourne. Play and Creativity are innate responses to curiosity and her work provides opportunities for audiences to explore this aspect of human nature.
Bridie completed a BFA at Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts in 2022 and is continuing to grow and establish her practice since relocating to Australia in 2023. Interested by the potential of colour and abstraction, Bridie works across mediums to express familiar experiences and validate concepts of play.
‘Keepsakes’ weaves together abstract forms and familiar objects. The objects chosen have clear links to Bridie’s life and day to day spaces; the artworks consider the things we keep and their importance. The pieces act as a diary of objects and shapes collected through the artist’s own experiences. However, the audience should draw on their own personal memories and individual associations to create their own unique stories and understanding of the compositions.
