Colourisma Fantasmic by Eddy Burger

  • Artemisia Gallery & Event Space 248 High St Windsor Australia (map)

Eddy’s artworks are colourful, surreal, whimsical and weird. They are the combination of two different methods:

First he produced the line drawings. He has done hundreds in recent years, predominantly using black fineliner on paper sized A4 and A5, and has exhibited them, uncoloured, on several occasions. Most were created through stream-of-consciousness as well as prompts and/or the intention to be weird and unusual. They speak of his love for sci-fi, fantasy, animals, weirdness. Many became issue-based as they progressed, concerned with environmentalism, animal liberation and rebellion. Eddy is an anti-realist, anti-conservative, and punk anarchist and is a great advocate for works of the imagination.

Eddy has only been colouring his drawings for the past two years. He scans them then either colours them using coloured inks, or using computer programs as is the case with the art in this exhibition. There are great advantages of using computer programs given the ease with which the appearance can be changed, whether changing the entire colour scheme by merely turning the colour wheel or changing the contrast, solarising or applying other effects. Eddy is often blown away by the dazzling variety attainable. So many of them look great that it is a pleasure to be able to exhibit multiple versions of three of his works in this exhibition.

Eddy’s other primary visual focus is brightly coloured, heavily manipulated digital photography. He also practices sculpture, theatre, singing, and creative writing that is surreal, weird and funny.
