Worship is an exploration of my personal connection to spirituality. I grew up in a secular, working class family, however experiences in recent years have led me to question my beliefs, and the mechanisms of the universe.
Religious art has always been alluring and inspiring to me, but I’ve never seen my own unique spirituality depicted. I wanted to create it. Abstract art and graffiti have always stimulated my mind and stirred my heart – the art I see along the train line on my commute is often the highlight of my day. Spray paint is the perfect medium to depict how my spirituality can be a bit rough around the edges. My work, like my spirituality, is colourful and imperfect. It can be simplistic, but sometimes ballistic. I use signs and symbols to depict distinctive aspects – stars are bright moments, while ‘scribble nests’ are harder, scarier things to deal with.
What does your spirituality look like? Is it bright or monochromatic? What signs or symbols make up your internal spiritual world?
