SHÂNLAND by Shân Primrose

  • Artemisia Gallery & Event Space 248 High St Windsor Australia (map)

‘Shânland’ is an immersive, colourful, two-part mixed-media exhibition curated by Burmese-Indian-Australian multidisciplinary artist Shân Primrose. The overall exhibition is inspired by the ‘Shan’ state of Burma/Myanmar, which is the country’s largest state and namesake of the lead artist. Through this body of work, Primrose creates her own homeland, her own ‘Shânland’, that speaks to the complexities of existing as herself.

Expanding on this world, Primrose has also invited a collection of artists with diverse backgrounds to show work.

Together, the two exhibitions transform the gallery into a microcosm of the mystical and colourful territory of Shânland, while acknowledging the resilience of those facing ongoing political oppression and corruption in Australia, Burma/Myanmar and across the globe.
