What happens when the boundaries between the seen and unseen, the physical and spiritual, begin to dissolve? Lucid Dreams brings together the distinct yet interconnected practices of Bea Yu and Tish Hautea, exploring the fluid space between dreams and waking consciousness. While Yu’s practice ventures into the spiritual realm through animism and the unseen, Hautea’s work is rooted in the physical world, drawing from lived experiences and tangible realities.

Moving between these seemingly opposing perspectives, the exhibition unfolds as a shared dreamscape where the mystical meets the mundane, memory intertwines with imagination, and the familiar becomes strangely unfamiliar. Rather than existing as separate worlds, their practices converge in a space where reality is neither fixed nor absolute, inviting viewers to question where one realm ends and another begins.

BEA YU

Yu’s practice navigates animism, bicultural identity and inherited beliefs, she explores the interconnectedness of memory, consciousness and the unseen. Through ink drawings, animation and installations, Yu employs repetition and layering to evoke dreamlike spaces where the familiar and unfamiliar converge. Her works invite viewers into an introspective world where reality dissolves into imagination, offering contemplative encounters with the mystical dimensions of everyday existence.

TISH HAUTEA

Hautea’s work is centered on her waking dreams, drawing inspiration from still life and everyday objects. Through a palette of soft, dreamy colors, she transforms familiar subjects into ethereal compositions through the process of reduction woodcut prints.
