Light and Time by Naomi Bishop

  • Artemisia Gallery & Event Space 248 High St Windsor Australia (map)

The works in this exhibition have been created from the methods and materials of painting, drawing and photography. Elements are collected and combined, dissolved and distilled, cured, then exposed to air and light. Iron oxide, mica, titanium, and sodium and potassium are applied, washed, altered, erased and crystallised.

Over a two year period compositions have changed, responding and reacting to the the elements on paper, materials and textures oxidising, synthesising. A reduced palette of cerulean, turquoise, ultramarine, Prussian blue, silver and gold directs us to air, sky and space, light and time.

References are disparate, from early medieval manuscripts, scientific diagrams, astrophotograpy, and faded images of ancient petraglyphs. This collection alludes to another reality that exists just outside of our ordinary perception, a space that takes time to see.
