Disruption and story-telling through a Frankensteinian pursuit of excellence – cutting up the old, re-purposing, creating something new– and lobrow! I do not confront the world head-on with my works, instead I offer another worldview – join my cult and #thewaragainstpainting, see the stars, don’t look back, look forward, let curiosity guide you, #cutupeverything !
THE WORKS
This exhibition features my colourful, lowbrow surreal Cornell boxes (I hate the term ‘assemblages’) with varying themes. A faux-nostalgic look back at late 19th/ early 20th Century Europe, but also a bastardization thereof: instead of their intense pursuit of defining and cataloguing of the world, we get a dream- like jumble of recognisable but out-of-place objects. Chaos, illusions, fantasy, memory and glossy- two-dollar-store-kitsch battle it out in tiny boxes. Inspired by - and an amalgamation of: a love of bygone Europe; heavy metal; science fiction; comics; Ancient Aliens; Lovecraft; more chaos; Dada and Surrealism.
