Cypress Pine
149 x 40 x 40cm
Finely sanded finish. Coated with 8 coats of Hope’s 100% pure Tung Oil. Charred base and finished with PVA glue. Fabricated metal base of 16mm thick steel. Rusted with Celtic Sea Salt. Coated then with a rust convertor to blacken. Top coated with 3 coats of Intergrain Ultra Clear exterior. Metal base has a welded 16 mm diameter rio bar 12 cm long to support a central hole in base of sculpture. Screws 10/5x40 stainless steel. Screwed through base to connect. Adhesive to adhere metal base to sculpture is Sika Flex Pro in black. 6mm rubber stuck to base to prevent scratches on floor.
Sculpted initially with chainsaws andpower sanders. Refined with wood carving chisels. Elected for a finely sanded finish. Timber base and carving are one piece. Base was charred with a blow torch to darken timber. All timber was then coated with three coats of Tight Bond 3 timber glue.
