Pussification by Sophia Slaney-Marsch
- Artemisia Gallery & Event Space 248 High St Windsor Australia (map)
Pussification by cultural definition: a process of weakening by softening and expressing effeminate qualities.
Its reference to the vagina indicates an inherent sexism, pushing the narrative that to be feminine is to be weaker and inferior. Sophia Slaney-Marsch reclaims this language through her textile-based practice.
The radical brilliance of textiles as an art medium aligns with the reappropriation of misogynistic language. Using the spatial symbolism of the gallery window and door, the series of yonic soft sculptures asks viewers to look in, to unfold their beliefs, and to be Pussified.
Sophia was the recipient of the Artemisia prize in the 2025 Feast Prize exhibition which awarded her this exhibition.
